Patient/caregiver was educated upon complications of hypotension as follows:
- Hypotension and reduced blood and oxygen supply to the lungs can result in poor gas exchange in the lungs, reduced oxygen pick-up, contributing to increased dyspnea and SOB.
- Unresolved hypotension and progressively reduced blood supply to the kidneys can result in diminishing urine output, increased fluid and waste retention, and slow deterioration of renal function.
- Reduced blood supply to the skeletal muscle can result in reduced oxygen supply to the muscle, thus leading to muscle pain, fatigue, and reduced endurance to activity.
- Low fluid volume in circulation can contribute to increased thickening of blood, leading to increased risk for clot formation and DVT.
