Patient was educated on causes of deep vein thrombosis as follows:

  1. Dehydration: Excessive fluid loss for any reason and/or poor fluid intake with consequent dehydration can result in increased thickening of blood, thus leading to increased risk for clot formation and DVT.
  2. Inappropriate dose of blood thinners – Dose of blood thinners and anticoagulant medications must be closely regulated in individuals long-term use of these medications, with periodical lab draws to determine the thickness of blood and the chances for clot formation. Noncompliance with this recommendation can result in inappropriate dosing of these medications, which can increase the likelihood for DVT and clot formation.
