Patient was educated on life-style measures for individuals with history of Vitamin B12 deficiency anemia as follows:

  1. Poor dietary habits and malnutrition in individuals happens to be one major reason for B12 deficiency. Observe compliance with good balanced dietary habits and calorie intake requirements, as recommended, to prevent development of B12 deficiency.
  2. Vitamin B12 is mainly present in meat and animal products. Incorporating good amounts of organ and muscle meat, sea food, eggs, milk, and milk products, such as, cheese and yogurt, can help prevent vitamin B12 deficiency.
  3. Individuals that are strictly vegans have very limited sources of vitamin B12 and can be at increased risk for deficiency. Incorporating fortified foods, such as, breakfast cereals, non-dairy milk, soy products, and nutritional yeast can be a good measure for prevention of vitamin B12 deficiency in vegans.
  4. Alcohol abuse can interfere with B12 absorption in the intestines, lead to a malnutrition state, and result in B12 deficiency. Observe compliance with recommendation regarding moderation or abstinence on alcohol intake.
  5. Pregnant women can present with increased B12 requirements, secondary to increased biological demands during pregnancy. B12 deficiency in pregnant women can result in complications, such as, preterm delivery and neonatal death. Pregnant women must observe compliance with daily intake recommendation on B12, as recommended by the physician.
