Patient/caregiver was educated on the sources for heme iron as follows:

  1. Heme iron is mainly present in the meat sources of iron.
  2. Heme iron is less available, but easily absorbed by the body than the non-heme iron.
  3. Organ meat and sea food is highly rich in heme iron than the muscle meat.
  4. Rich sources of heme iron include:
  5. Liver meat from chicken, cod, goose, pig, lamb, turkey, beef, and ox are very rich and first line sources of heme iron.
  6. Shell fish and sea food, such as, clams, oysters, mussels, fish are also very rich in heme iron.
  7. Muscle and game meat from chicken, beef, lamb, turkey, pork, and venison are rich in heme iron.
