Patient was educated on choice of foods for consideration on a GERD diet as follows:

  1. Prefer having your vegetables, plain & fresh, baked or boiled versus fried, without any heavy cream added.
  2. Prefer having low garlic, onion, chilies, spice mixes, and jalapeno peppers on your diet. Prefer having oregano, sage, black pepper, basil, cumin, coriander, parsley, and other spices & herbs, as tolerated.
  3. Prefer desserts having honey, gelatin, pudding, or jam over cream-based cookies and cakes. Prefer hard candy over dark chocolate.
  4. Prefer having decaffeinated coffee and tea over regular coffee, regular tea, and chocolate drinks. Prefer having sparkling water over dark sodas. Prefer having red or white wine over beer.
