Patient was educated on measures to be taken for the management of peptic ulcers as follows:

  1. Avoid using NSAIDs. Rely on alternate pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications for any issues of pain and inflammation.
  2. Observe compliance with any probiotics prescribed. Probiotics compete with H. pylori, the bacterium responsible for the development of peptic ulcers, for resources such as, nutrition and, help with controlling the inflammation in the stomach and intestines.
  3. Observe compliance with medications, such as, proton pump inhibitors and H-2 receptor blockers prescribed by your physician. Compliance with these medications reduce the overall production of gastric acid and help with healing of the peptic ulcer.
  4. Observe compliance with antibiotics prescribed to treat H. pylori infection. Noncompliance with the antibiotics result in continued acid injury of the inner lining of the stomach and intestines, secondary to unresolved H. pylori infection and thereby, result in exacerbation of peptic ulcer.
