Patient was educated on pathology of ischemic bowel disease as follows:
- Ischemic bowel disease is a condition that results from reduced blood flow to the intestines.
- The symptoms of the condition depend on the extent of damage suffered from the reduced supply of oxygenated blood.
- The diminished blood flow doesn’t provide enough oxygen for the cells in the intestines.
- Most common causes of Ischemic bowel disease include
- Atherosclerosis – Fatty deposits in the inner lining of the blood vessels supplying oxygenated blood to the intestines.
- Hemorrhage – Any significant hemorrhage leading to deficit in the blood volume.
- Thrombus formation – Any blood clot that travelled to the blood vessels supplying the intestines and has obstructed the flow of oxygenated blood to the intestines.
- This is an emergency state and should be acted upon immediately, for better outcome.
