Patient was educated on complications of irritable bowel syndrome as follows:

  1. Unresolved recurrent episodes of diarrhea can result in dehydration and loss of nutrients.
  2. Prolonged episodes of constipation can result in hard stools and activation / aggravation of hemorrhoids.
  3. Activation of hemorrhoids can result in episodes of rectal bleeding and consequent anemia.
  4. Continued disturbance with intestinal patterns can result in diminished appetite levels and reduced intake.
  5. Prolonged episodes of diminished intake can result in malnutrition and weight loss.
