Patient was educated on measures to be considered for compliance with heart healthy diet recommendation as follows:
- While picking cooking oil, choose from healthier vegetable oils such as, avocado oil, olive oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil, canola oil, safflower oil and soybean oil for cooking against butter, lard, coconut oil, coconut milk, palm oil, margarine, and cocoa butter, which are rich in unhealthier saturated fats.
- Avoid consumption of deep-fried foods and snacks such as, egg rolls, fried meat dishes, cheese sticks, French fries, hash browns, hush puppies, potato chips, and plantain chips, as they can be rich in saturated and unhealthy fats.
- While checking out food from restaurants, do not ask for or pick extra salt sachets and extra cheese, which can help towards reducing your daily salt and fat consumption to some extent.
- Rely on other seasonings and spices, such as, onions, garlic, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, basil, cumin, mint, parsley, rosemary, black pepper, green chilies, saffron, coriander, fennel, turmeric, and lemon to add flavor to the food. This can help avoid eating too bland and reduce craving for the salt and unhealthy fats.
