Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to manage and prevent atopic dermatitis as follows:

  1. Maintain a diary for food allergies and update the diary as allergic symptoms are noted for any new food sources. Common dietary allergens with a potential to trigger atopic dermatitis activation in individuals include milk & dairy products, wheat, barley, egg protein, seafood, and soy. Individuals with history of frequent exacerbation of atopic dermatitis must avoid eating out, especially when they are not sure of the ingredients and cooking practices.
  2. Having the maintenance of filters on your heating systems and air conditioners performed on schedule and replacing them timely can help avoid exposure to pollen and dust mites.
  3. Keep a check on your indoor humidity, using a hygrometer you can get from the hardware stores. Maintaining the indoor humidity below fifty percent with the help of a dehumidifier can help prevent exposure to mold & dust mites, improve air quality, and thus prevent activation of atopic dermatitis.
