Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to manage and prevent development of callus as follows:

  1. Wearing shoes without socks is a common practice lately, which can lead to increased friction on the feet, resulting in callus formation. Properly cushioned socks usually protect the feet from excessive friction from the shoes and development of calluses.
  2. OTC soft callus pads properly applied on the callus site can provide cushion and prevent any friction on the site, thus helping it heal. The callus pads could also be medicated with salicylic acid, which when properly applied to the callus site can help with gradual softening of the callus and soothing of the skin.
  3. Individuals with history of calluses on the feet, especially diabetics, must observe compliance with proper foot hygiene and scheduled podiatrist visits. Foot and toenail care by trained personnel can be significantly helpful in preventing development of calluses and ingrown toenails.
