Patient/caregiver was educated on risk factors and triggers for psoriasis activation as follows:
- Infections: Bacterial/viral/fungal infections of the body can increase the stress and trigger activation of psoriasis in predisposed individuals. Infections in general can also directly alter the immune system contributing to psoriasis activation.
- Cold weather & Injury: Intense cold weather can excessively dry the skin and trigger activation of psoriasis in individuals predisposed to the condition. Also, injury to skin from bug infestation and suffering sunburn can trigger an episode of psoriasis in predisposed individuals.
- Smoking: For unknown reasons, smoking is also known to act as a trigger for psoriasis activation.
