Patient/caregiver was educated on signs and symptoms of candida infection as follows:
- Symptoms of candida infection can differ based on the site or body parts involved.
- Individuals with candida infection can present with white patches or plaques involving the skin and mucus membranes, with some inflammatory changes of redness and soreness.
- Infection of the oral cavity, tongue, gums, pharynx, and esophagus with candida can result in oropharyngeal candidiasis or thrush and esophageal candidiasis. Individuals can present with white patches in the mouth, tongue, and throat with some redness or soreness and burning sensation in the areas involved.
- Oral cavity involvement with candida can also result in cracking and fissuring with soreness at the corners of mouth, where both the lips meet. Patients can also present with involvement of throat with candida can also result in difficulty swallowing, with pain and discomfort during the act of swallow. Severe untreated cases can also result in pain in the chest & abdomen, diminished intake, and weight loss.
