Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to manage and prevent eczema as follows:
- Avoid exposure to pollen by limiting outdoor time, especially during spring season. Dry and windy days can be especially risky due to the high pollen count and so, staying indoor on such days with doors and windows closed can help prevent exposure to pollen. Individuals with history of pollen allergy must avoid lawn and gardening activities to avoid pollen exposure. Having a pollen mask on during outdoor activities can provide extra protection.
- Individuals with history of eczema can avoid having any beautification indoor plants and flowers, to prevent exposure to pollen and eczema flare-up.
- Maintain a diary for food allergies and update the diary as allergic symptoms are noted for any new food sources. Common dietary allergens with a potential to trigger eczema activation in individuals include milk & dairy products, wheat, barley, egg protein, seafood, and soy. Individuals with history of frequent exacerbation of eczema must avoid eating out, especially when they are not sure of the ingredients and cooking practices.
- Having the maintenance of filters on your heating systems and air conditioners performed on schedule and replacing them timely can help avoid exposure to pollen and dust mites.
