Patient was educated on Crohn’s disease as follows:

  1. Crohn’s disease is a condition secondary to chronic inflammation in the intestines.
  2. Crohn’s disease can occur due to an abnormal autoimmune response, which develops inflammatory cells that damage the cells of the intestinal wall and lead to symptoms of the inflammatory bowel disease.
  3. Factors like diet and stress can aggravate the symptoms of inflammatory process.
  4. Crohn’s disease can involve any part of the intestines, both small and large intestines and involves the entire thickness of the intestinal wall. With numerous areas of involvement all along the length of intestines, patients present with skip lesions with areas of normal healthy bowel in between.
  5. The wall of involved part of the intestine in various places become swollen, inflamed and develop ulcers giving rise to intense abdominal pain, diarrhea, discomfort and nutrition impairment. Symptoms can be severe based on the extent of the intestines involved.
