Patient was educated on measures to be taken to manage constipation as follows:
- Do not abruptly increase food sources for soluble fiber in your diet. Doing so, can slow the bowel movements and cause constipation.
- Limiting use of pain killers and laxatives, only as needed, can help prevent constipation and promote bowel movement.
- Having physical activity, as tolerated, can improve the constipation and help promote bowel movement.
- Do not ignore the urge. Ignoring the urge to use the toilet, can result in too much water being absorbed in the large intestine, leading to hardening of stool, thus making it difficult to move.
