Patient was educated on Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) as follows:

  1. Glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease.
  2. This number can be calculated from the results of your blood work.
  3. This number tells whether your kidneys are working normally or has their function been compromised.
  4. If your GFR number is low, your kidneys are not functioning at an optimal level, as they should.
  5. If the kidney function is compromised, the earlier it is detected, the better will be the chance of slowing or stopping its progression.
  6. In adults, a GFR number more than 90 is considered healthy.
  7. GFR declines with age, even in people without kidney disease.
