Patient was educated on prediabetes as follows:
- Prediabetes is a condition where the blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not so high to be classified as diabetic.
- This is a state where the muscle, fat, and liver cells are not responding to insulin, as they should and so, are under performing on glucose uptake.
- This results in elevated blood sugar levels, as sugar is not being picked up by the cells. This condition can also be referred to as impaired glucose tolerance or insulin resistance.
- Prediabetes, unless acted upon, will slowly transform into Type 2 diabetes, over a period.
- Prediabetes can be diagnosed with a series of random blood sugar readings falling between 140 to 200 mg/dL.
- Prediabetes is a state, where adapting healthy lifestyle changes, such as, regular exercise schedule, losing weight, making healthy food choices, can control the blood sugar levels back to the normal and thereby, prevent or at least delay the transformation to type 2 diabetes.
