Patient was educated on blood glucose levels as follows:

  1. Fasting blood sugars (Before breakfast)
  • This is the blood sugar reading taken, usually early in the morning with an overnight empty stomach.
  • For nondiabetics, this number should be in a healthy range, between 70 – 99 (less than 100).
  • In diabetics, the goal is to maintain this number in a healthy range between 70 – 130.
  1. 2 hours postprandial
  • This is the blood sugar reading taken 2 hours after a meal.
  • For nondiabetics, a healthy goal is to maintain this number less than 140.
  • In diabetics, the goal is to maintain this number less than 180.
