Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Digitek as follows:

  1. Individuals can experience severe nausea and vomiting, when the medication is taken on empty stomach. Taking dose of Digitek with a glass of water, after having some food or a snack can help avoid having unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms with the medication.
  2. Digitek use carries the risk of increased bowel motility and consequently, result in diarrhea. The diarrhea can be self-limiting and resolve in due course of time. Compliance with fluid and electrolyte resuscitation recommendations can help prevent fluid and electrolyte deficits and accompanying side-effects. If you experience any unresolved and continuing diarrhea with Digitek intake, report it to your physician or other health care personnel, to accommodate any appropriate changes in your plan of care.
  3. Sudden discontinuation of Digitek intake, after prolonged use, can result in worsening of the heart failure and fatal arrhythmias, with consequent increase in fluid retention, pedal edema, shortness of breath, episodes of dizziness, and confusion. Discontinuation on Digitek intake must be only under your physician’s guidance and recommendation.
