Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Tiotropium as follows:
- Tiotropium use can result in increased urinary retention and increased difficulty passing urine. This side-effect of tiotropium can increase the difficulty of urination in individuals with history of prostate hypertrophy and so, must be administered with caution with close watch maintained for increasing effort of urination and progressively decreasing volume of urine during the act. Retention of urine in the bladder can increase the chances for urinary tract infection, especially in senior citizens and individuals with history of multiple UTIs, and so, must be administered with extra caution with close watch maintained for any evolving UTI symptoms.
- Do not take Tiotropium, if you ever manifested any allergic response to intake of Tiotropium. Discuss your history of allergic response to this medication with your physician, without fail.
