Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking clonidine as follows:
- While taking clonidine, labs for periodical evaluation of liver and renal function could be ordered, to prevent any toxicity with the medication. Observe compliance with any labs ordered for liver and renal function evaluation.
- Take the medication at the same time every day, to avoid forgetting the medication.
- Maintain strict compliance with intake of the medication as ordered, with regards to dosage and frequency, to derive the benefit of the medication.
- Do not change the dose on this medication without consulting your doctor.
- Clonidine can interact with a lot of other medications, thus influencing blood pressure and heart rate numbers, and can contribute to Discuss with your physician regarding any of your heart complaints, all your current medications and their safety with clonidine, if you are newly being started on clonidine. Discuss with your physician regarding your safety with regards to continuing on clonidine, if you are newly diagnosed with any other cardiac conditions and being started on any new medications.
