Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Mysoline as follows:
- Mysoline intake can result in vertigo, with continuous reeling or spinning sensation of self and surroundings, which can increase the fall risk. In individuals with history of vertigo, Mysoline carries the risk of a steep exacerbation in symptoms of vertigo, thus significantly increasing the fall risk. Mysoline could be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with history of vertigo, to prevent compromised safety.
- Mysoline is partially metabolized in the liver to many active metabolites. If liver function is grossly deficient, the metabolism of Mysoline can be compromised. This can lead to increased blood levels of the medication for longer periods of time, resulting in increased risk for side-effects and consequent toxicity. So, Mysoline could be avoided in individuals with hepatic dysfunction and an alternative medication considered or used with caution, with dose adjustments, periodical monitoring for liver functions and close watch for development of any toxicity symptoms with the medication.
