Patient/caregiver was educated on the side-effects of using Primidone as follows:
General allergic reactions
- Primidone use can result in general allergic reactions, such as, skin rashes, hives, and itching.
- Some patients can present with symptoms of severe allergic and anaphylactic response with primidone, such as, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, throat, and tongue, with consequent difficulty breathing. Seek emergency medical help for such findings, especially with difficulty breathing, for any appropriate measures to be considered.
Respiratory side-effects
- Primidone use can result in depression of respiratory center in the brain and lead to poor shallow breathing and exacerbation of shortness of breath. Using primidone along with other products that also carry a risk for depressing the respirations, such as, alcohol, hydrocodone, and codeine, can result in their effects on respiration getting added up, leading to profound respiratory depression and thus, can be fatal.
