Central nervous system side-effects

  1. Montelukast can induce problems with attention, and result in disorientation and confusion, which can be self-limiting and relieve in due course of time. Watching closely for the therapeutic response following Montelukast intake, can help with timely reporting of any unrelieved dizziness and confusion with the medication.
  2. Montelukast use can also result in sleep disturbance with poor quality sleep, vivid dreams, restlessness, hallucinations, and compromised memory.
  3. Montelukast use carries risk of worsening of mood and clinical symptoms of mood disorders. Individuals can present with complaints such as, feeling low and depressed, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, gross appetite changes, impulsiveness, agitation, aggression, and suicidal thoughts.
