Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Carbidopa-Levodopa as follows:
- Carbidopa-Levodopa intake can lead to uncontrollable urges in individuals, prompting them for unusual behaviors. Carbidopa-Levodopa intake can result in urges such as, uncontrollable shopping, gambling, drinking alcohol, and having sex. Report any new development or exacerbation of uncontrollable urges and unusual behaviors to your physician and other health care personnel, for any change in plan of care to be considered.
- Carbidopa-Levodopa intake carries the risk of lowering the threshold for seizures, thereby, resulting in seizure activity, especially in individuals with history of the same. Notify your doctor of any new development or worsening seizure episodes, so that, a change in your plan of care could be considered.
- Taking the medication at regularly spaced intervals help maintain appropriate blood levels of Carbidopa-Levodopa needed to derive the beneficial effects.
- If you miss a dose, try taking it at the earliest notice of noncompliance. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the dose scheduled. Do not take an extra dose to try making up for the missed dose. Notify your doctor and other health care personnel regarding your dose noncompliance.
