Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Dutasteride as follows:

  1. Appropriately discard any damaged Dutasteride capsule with contents leaking, making sure the contents will not come into skin contact with either you or any of your family members. Have gloves on before handling any damaged Dutasteride capsule. Any area of skin contact with the contents of the leaking capsule must be immediately washed with soap and water. Report the incident to your physician or the home health personnel.
  2. Contents of the Dutasteride capsule can get absorbed through the skin. Skin exposure to the contents of the Dutasteride capsule in expectant mothers could heavily harm the unborn baby and result in birth defects. So, extra caution must be observed while handling Dutasteride capsules or discarding damaged Dutasteride capsules, with any pregnant women around. Make sure the Dutasteride capsules are not handled at all by any expectant mothers and women planning to get pregnant.
  3. Individuals taking Dutasteride must stay away from any blood donations, as the donated blood containing Dutasteride could be transfused to a pregnant woman, thus resulting in damage to the fetus and causing severe birth defects. Individuals taking Dutasteride must abstain from blood donations, for atleast 6 months after the treatment with Dutasteride ends.
