Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Singulair as follows:

  1. In the event of any current manifestations of any allergic response with this medication, report it to your physician or other health care personnel immediately, to check regarding your safety with continuing on intake of this medication.
  2. Singulair use can result in sleep disturbance with poor quality sleep, vivid dreams, restlessness, hallucinations, and compromised memory. Singulair must be taken with caution in individuals with history of sleep disorders, as singulair use can contribute to worsening of insomnia symptoms.
  3. Singulair carries slight risk of lowering the platelet count and result in episodes of easy and unexplained bruising and nasal bleeding. Singulair must be used with extreme caution in individuals with history of thrombocytopenia, as singulair carries the risk of aggravating the symptoms of this blood disorder. Individuals with thrombocytopenia, upon singulair intake, can present with increased risk for easy bruising and small purple patches on the skin, due to reduced clotting ability of blood and episodes of poorly controlled bleeding into the skin.
