Patient/caregiver was educated on the side-effects of using Lyrica as follows:

General allergic reactions

  1. Lyrica use can result in general allergic reactions, such as, skin rashes, hives, and itching.
  2. Some patients can present with symptoms of severe allergic and anaphylactic response with Lyrica, such as, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, throat, and tongue, with consequent difficulty breathing. Seek emergency medical help for such findings, especially with difficulty breathing, for any appropriate measures to be considered.

Musculoskeletal side-effects

  1. Lyrica carries the risk of inducing/aggravating unusual eye movements, blurred vision, muscle weakness, unsteadiness, motor incoordination, and compromised balance, thus increasing the fall risk. Confusion and dizziness with Lyrica use, can add to the fall risk, thus enhancing it further. Slow change of position, seeking caregiver assistance during ambulation, and observing compliance with DME prescribed can help to reduce fall risk and prevent any accidents from happening.
