Patient/caregiver was educated on the side-effects of using Haldol as follows:

General allergic reactions                                 

  1. Haldol use can result in general allergic reactions, such as, skin rashes, hives, and itching.
  2. Some patients can present with symptoms of severe allergic and anaphylactic response with Haldol, such as, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, throat, and tongue, with consequent difficulty breathing. Seek emergency medical help for such findings, especially with difficulty breathing, for any appropriate measures to be considered.

Cardiovascular side-effects

  1. Haldol carries the risk of elevating cholesterol levels. Individuals with history of hyperlipidemia, plaque formation, and myocardial infarction, must be cautious with intake of Haldol, with regular labs drawn for evaluation of blood lipid levels. Individuals can present with compromised exercise tolerance, increasing shortness of breath, and episodes of chest pain.
  2. Haldol also may aggravate some underlying cardiac arrhythmias leading to severe debility and death.
