Patient was educated on side effects of using Flovent HFA as follows:
- General allergic reactions
- Flovent HFA use can result in general allergic reactions, such as, skin rashes, hives, and itching.
- Some patients can present with symptoms of severe allergic and anaphylactic response with Flovent HFA, such as, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, throat, and tongue, with consequent difficulty breathing. Seek emergency medical help for such findings, especially with difficulty breathing, for any appropriate measures to be considered.
- Opportunistic infections
- Flovent HFA use can result in opportunistic fungal infection, such as, candida, with the individual presenting with white patches on the mucosal surfaces of the oral and nasal cavities.
- Steroid use can result in suppression of the overall immune system. Due to the immunosuppression caused by the steroid Flovent HFA, individuals using Flovent HFA are more prone to secondary bacterial and viral infections of respiratory tract. Patients can present with signs and symptoms of infection, such as, fever, throat irritation, productive cough, and stomach upset.
- Flovent HFA must be cautiously administered in individuals with history of opportunistic infections, such as, tuberculosis, herpes, and candida.
