Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Cinacalcet as follows:
- Do not take Cinacalcet, if you ever manifested any allergic response to intake of Cinacalcet. In the event of an allergic response with this medication, report to your physician or other health care personnel, regarding your safety with continuing on intake of Cinacalcet.
- Cinacalcet can interact with a number of other medications and can precipitate serious reactions. If you are being newly started on Cinacalcet, discuss with your physician regarding all other medications you are currently taking and their safety with Cinacalcet. Also, if you have been taking Cinacalcet for long, discuss with your physician regarding your history of Cinacalcet intake, when you are being started on any new medication.
- Cinacalcet can interact with medications, such as, diuretics, calcium supplements, many antibacterial and antifungal antibiotics, antiarrhythmic medications, and antidepressants, resulting in development or aggravation of cardiac arrhythmias, leading to debility and sudden cardiac death. Avoid taking Cinacalcet along with medications belonging to the above-mentioned groups, to prevent any dangerous arrhythmias from developing.
