Patient/caregiver was educated on the side-effects of using Pyridoxine as follows:
Central nervous system side-effects
- Pyridoxine intake can induce some headache, confusion, and dizziness and increase the risk for fall and accidents. Stay away from activities, such as, driving and operating heavy machinery, until you are used to the side effects caused by Pyridoxine intake. Observing compliance with DME prescribed, if any, can help prevent falls and accidents, secondary to dizziness and hypotension. If the dizziness becomes bothersome, report it to your physician and other health care personnel, for any change in plan of care to be considered.
Metabolic side-effects
- Pyridoxine administered parenterally can contain aluminum that can result in toxicity, when the supplement is administered in high doses. High levels of aluminum deposited in the nervous tissues can compromise memory, cognition, and lead to dementia symptoms. Aluminum can also be deposited in the bones, thus weakening the skeletal framework of the body and resulting in episodes of unresolving bone pain and nonhealing fractures.
