Patient was educated on side effects of using Flonase as follows:
- Osteoporosis
- Chronic use of steroid medication, such as, Flonase, can result in osteoporosis with weakening of the skeletal framework.
- This can result in bone pain and pathological fractures, even at the slightest injury.
- Hypokalemia
- Chronic use of Flonase can result in loss of potassium ion and hypokalemia. Low blood levels of potassium ion can result in symptoms such as, irregular heartbeat, palpitations, dizziness, tingling, and muscle cramps.
- This particularly can be an issue in individuals with history of cardiac arrhythmias and so, must be very cautiously administered.
- Constitutional symptoms, such as, nervousness, trouble sleeping, irritability, and general body and muscle aches can occur secondary to chronic flonase use.
