Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Anastrozole as follows:

  1. Do not take anastrozole, if you ever manifested any allergic response to intake of anastrozole. In the event of an allergic response with this medication, report to your physician or other health care personnel, regarding your safety with continuing on intake of anastrozole.
  2. Anastrozole can interact with a number of other medications and can precipitate serious reactions. If you are being newly started on anastrozole, discuss with your physician regarding all other medications you are currently taking and their safety with anastrozole. Also, if you have been taking anastrozole for long, discuss with your physician regarding your history of anastrozole intake, when you are being started on any new medication.
  3. Anastrozole works by inhibiting the synthesis of estrogen hormone in the body. Individuals taking estrogen hormone supplements for any reason can have increased availability of estrogen in the body. Concurrent administration of anastrozole with estrogen hormone supplements can result in increased estrogen availability and compromise the therapeutic benefit of anastrozole intake. So, anastrozole should be avoided taken along with estrogen hormone supplements.
  4. Anastrozole use in expectant mothers could harm the unborn baby and result in birth defects. So, anastrozole use should be avoided during pregnancy and in women planning to get pregnant. Women in active reproductive age group, taking anastrozole on a regular basis must employ effective contraceptive measures in order to avoid getting pregnant.
