Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Sensipar as follows:
- Sensipar can interact with a number of other medications and can precipitate serious reactions. If you are being newly started on sensipar, discuss with your physician regarding all other medications you are currently taking and their safety with sensipar. Also, if you have been taking sensipar for long, discuss with your physician regarding your history of sensipar intake, when you are being started on any new medication.
- Sensipar is extensively metabolized in the liver, to inactive metabolites that are mostly excreted in urine. If liver function is deficient, the metabolism of sensipar can be compromised. This can lead to increased blood levels of the medication for longer periods of time, resulting in increased risk for side-effects and consequent toxicity. So, observe compliance with periodical monitoring for liver functions ordered, to prevent development of any toxic symptoms. Also, observe compliance with periodical labs ordered for blood calcium levels.
- Take the medication dose at the same time, every day, to avoid forgetting the intake of medication. Do not change the dose and frequency on this medication without consulting your doctor.
