Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Vitamin B6 as follows:

  1. Vitamin B6 can interact with a number of other medications, which can compromise the therapeutic benefits of the supplement and that of other medications as well. If you are being newly started on Vitamin B6, discuss with your physician regarding all other medications you are currently taking and their safety with Vitamin B6. Also, if you have been taking Vitamin B6 for long, discuss with your physician regarding your history of Vitamin B6 intake, when you are being started on any new medication.
  2. If you are prescribed Vitamin B6 for relief of neuropathy, report to your physician regarding any worsening signs and symptoms of neuropathy in the extremities, such as, compromised balance and coordination, altered sensation, tingling and numbness, reduced sensitivity to touch or pain, and/or burning sensation. Also, notify your physician regarding episodes of seizures you encounter, if any. The symptoms of neuropathy due to deficiency of Vitamin B6 could not be completely reversed with the supplement.
  3. Do not take vitamin B with alcohol, as alcohol can consume vitamin B for its metabolism, thus resulting in deficiency of the supplement. In individuals with deficiency of the vitamin, this can compromise the therapeutic benefit of supplement intake.
